Port Elizabeth, often shortened to PE or also nicknamed “The Windy City”, and also “Die Baai” ( “the Bay” ). However, PE has been named to Gqeberha in 2019. She stretches for 16km along Algoa Bay in the Eastern Cape, and is one South Africa’s largest seaports. Home to several fantastic beaches, Port Elizabeth is located at the eastern end of the Garden Route. As a result, it is a popular destination for tourists, with its close proximity to the Addo Elephant National Park. The third largest national park in South Africa, Addo is just 45 miles (72 kilometres) to the north of PE. This is near the Zuurberg mountain range and, as the name suggests, hosts plenty of elephants, over 550 at last count. To explain, the park is also home to lion, buffalo, black rhino, spotted hyena, leopard, antelope and zebra. Part of the SAN parks group, you’ll find the park’s prices quite reasonable.
